Control systems
An important advantage of fixed shading devices is that they are passive or self operating. However, in certain periods of the year they may inhibit daylighting or passive solar heating. Movable shading control systems are more responsive than the fixed shading devices but their movement mechanisms require maintenance. When externally placed they need to be robust to cope with weather. Combination of a movable outdoor shading device and an indoor light blinds offers best opportunities to control solar gains all year long. Controls if designed as such can provide the ability to the user to locally control the level of shading and daylighting giving rise to more satisfactory internal conditions.
