Solar control and cooling systems

Control systems
An important advantage of fixed shading devices is that they are passive or self operating. However, in certain periods of the year they may inhibit daylighting or passive solar heating. Movable shading control systems are more responsive than the fixed shading devices but their movement mechanisms require maintenance. When externally placed they need to be robust to cope with weather.
Combination of a movable outdoor shading device and an indoor light blinds offers best opportunities to control solar gains all year long.
Controls if designed as such can provide the ability to the user to locally control the level of shading and daylighting giving rise to more satisfactory internal conditions.

A large variety of glazing or selective coatings is proposed by the manufacturers. Some of them protect the internal spaces from the solar heat by reflecting the infrared and UV radiation whilst provide a very good transmittance to the visible spectrum. There are also coatings that reduce the brightness glare of the glazing and heat but provide good luminous performance.
